the making of a costume.

When I first asked Thea what she wanted to be for Halloween, she answered without skipping a beat: "an orange leaf!" So, an orange leaf she was.

I had so much fun making this costume. It was fairly simple, and I really enjoyed all of the handstitching.

First came the leaf:

The crown is my favorite part of her costume.

She wore the costume three times, so it has already gotten good use. And we had such fun trick-or-treating with our wonderful neighbors, though I think Thea was starting to wonder what she was missing by not eating all the candy being handed out. Thankfully, there were lots of other treats that she could enjoy - pretzels, pencils, erasers, and my favorite - these silly glasses.

Now, I think it's time to start my holiday sewing...

On Halloween weekend, Thea and I took a whirlwind trip to Charlotte, NC to celebrate my adorable niece's first birthday. It was the first time Thea and I have taken such an extended trip together all by ourselves (12+ hours in the car!), and I spent last week trying to catch up on things around the house - and to catch my breath!

Today, I'm feeling grateful...

That my sweet girl says that KALE! is her favorite thing in her smoothie.

For a better night's rest last night.

For new landscaping.

For my niece's health.

For warm scarves and knee socks.

For a chance to cut more fabric for the shop.

For fantastic gas mileage.

For three car loads of donations taken to the thrift store.

For a husband who lets me rest.
